Tables are multi-generational, midweek groups meeting in homes across Sheffield.

Why ‘Tables’?

Great question. For 300 or so years after Jesus’ resurrection, what is known as the ‘early church’ did not meet in the kind of buildings we’d be familiar with now. Rather, they gathered in people’s homes. Typically, around a Table, sharing hospitality and doing life with God together. When meeting, the church would worship, read the Bible and pray.

Around the table, there was always a spare seat. Everyone had something to contribute. Life took place around the table.

We want our midweek communities to follow this model. Being open to others with a spare seat and plate of food, everyone having something they can bring be it a song, a thought from the Bible, an encouragement or a pudding, as well as creating a space where God is glorified in all things.

What does a Table do?

Each Table operates slightly different, but there is a general practice that we encourage. Most Tables eat together, be it a full meal, cheese and wine or pudding. Most Tables open the Bible together, reading God’s Word and applying it to their lives. Most Tables pray together, standing with one another in the battles and the blessings. And most Tables share life together, supporting and loving each other in every season.

Each Table usually meets for 2 hours on a weekday evening. You might start with some food and getting to know people, then read the Bible, talk about it and pray together. Some start earlier and others start later. We’re sure you’ll find something that works for you.

How do I join a Table?

Tables meet across Sheffield on various nights of the week. You can see all of them here. Simply find one that works for you, ‘request to join’ and we’ll be in touch.

Our desire is for everyone to be able be part of a Table. If you have additional needs or are concerned about accessibility, please get in touch - we will do our best to help find the right Table for you.
